What You Stand to Gain from Mentorship

Everyone knows mentorship is about the mentee, right?

This assumption is something of a fallacy.

Mentors typically get just as much out of the relationship, in fact. Mentors have an opportunity to polish their leadership skills and gain confidence in their abilities.

They learn to define and describe the elements important to their take on leadership so they can communicate them clearly to the mentee.
Mentors are well positioned to learn about different perspectives — an important element to effective leadership and the cornerstone of empathy.
There’s also, of course, the satisfaction of giving back.

In my current role, I speak with leaders every day who could benefit — and often do — from being in a mentorship position.
