The one quality a candidate should never have
When you’re looking for a job, you want to be as agreeable as possible. Right?
Well… not exactly.
Let me explain.
Whether hiring for a leadership role, a creative role or an administrative role, recruiters look for people who think for themselves.
This doesn’t mean being Disagreeable, of course. But there’s another path.
If you can respectfully disagree with a point and even present an intelligent counter-opinion, often, it shows that you’re a free thinker.
This might sound something like:
“Hey, Howard, I see it another way…” or “Howard, have you considered this point of view?”
So if your inclination heading into an interview with a recruiter is to be agreeable, you might want to rethink that strategy.
My two cents…
