Why LinkedIn is not an ideal way to reach out to potential bosses
You’ve finally gotten your degrees of separation down to one with the company leader you’re hoping to connect with.
Your next step is to reach out via InMail and introduce yourself. Your hope?… To charm them into hiring you.
This is a tactic a lot of HR experts might recommend. Then again, maybe not.
As a hiring manager and recruiter, I may have a little bit of bias here, but I am not a fan of the “cold InMail” approach.
Some may call it intrusive… but I disagree, as one’s goal is to get noticed when job hunting. Especially now.
The bigger issue I have with this approach is that it’s apt to be ignored.
Most busy leaders spend very little time on LinkedIn and tend to ignore alerts from LinkedIn even when they come in through email.
A better way?
Get introduced directly via email by someone that knows the person you are trying to connect with.
Or connect with someone like me who can make the introduction for you.
Feel free to reach out to me anytime.
