You’re Taking Too Long to Hire!
Think of this as a follow up to my recently posted article on 8/16/21 entitled “Paralysis by Analysis.”
Hiring for high-level positions is a big commitment. You want to take your time and find the right person; then move forward with full confidence.
But there is such a thing as taking too long to execute the hiring process, and it’s a common mistake I see hiring managers make.
Wait too long to get back to a candidate after the interview process, and they lose interest or end up taking another offer.
Of course, there’s a process you must follow to evaluate and choose a candidate, and some aspects of that process are out of your hands.
But controlling what you will help ensure you don’t miss out on the right candidates. Having your paperwork and required hiring tasks organized and in order ahead of time is one way to ensure there are less holdups.
There is one thing that you must remember.
Both you and the CANDIDATE are taking a mutual leap of faith here.
It’s not just you the employer.
Therefore, you are being interviewed at the same time you are interviewing the candidate.
So let go of your myopic view and take a more inclusive approach.
Make sure that your process is one that treats people with respect.
A long, drawn-out interview process paired with indecisiveness DOES NOT paint you and your company in a positive light.
Working with a competent recruiter is obviously another way to move the hiring process along. Those of us at Abel Consulting & Executive Search are experienced at efficient hiring without cutting corners.
It’s what we do all day, every day.
Hiring is a big commitment. You want to take your time and find the right person. But there’s such a thing as taking too long — a common mistake I see hiring managers make. Working with a good recruiter is a fantastic way to move the hiring process along.
